While Atlanta has experienced several days of snow this winter, it’s not the city you expect an Olympic bobsledder to come from. And furthermore, one that wins a medal.

Elana Meyers pushed the USA two-sled in the woman bobsled event, and won the bronze. Meyers is from the Atlanta suburb of Douglasville. Meyers played basketball at Lithia Springs High School and softball at both George Washington University and the professional level. When softball got cut from the Summer Olympics, Meyers turned her attention to the Winter Games, and the bobsled.

Meyers and her partner Erin Pac hit the finish line in 53.05 seconds. In celebration, Meyers showed off her red, white and blue mouthpiece for the cameras. After the race Meyers shared more, saying, “I was just trying to stay calm, just trying to stay relaxed and trying to keep it in that same mentality. We’ve been going at this to have fun this whole time and that’s really what I was trying to do and I had the hugest grin on my face going down ‘cause I knew we were about to do something special.”

She spoke of how God got her through the race and about her family. “It’s amazing. That tops it all off, to have my family here and be able to make the trip is just awesome. They’ve been cheering me on. They’ve been on the bleachers, getting bleacher butt since I was young and making the long trips also. I accomplished a dream.”
