When you visit Atlanta's trendy Atlantic Station, your eye is caught by an 82-foot tall monumental arch in the Roman style.
This arch is not only an impressive structure, but it houses one of Atlanta's newest and most interactive museums, with the mission, according to the Millenium Gate website, "to preserve and interpret Georgia history, architecture, culture and philanthropic heritage as well as highlight Georgia’s historical and aesthetic relevance to the United States and to the world."
Inside the Millenium Gate are period rooms, and interactive exhibits which use film and advanced technology to tell Georgia's story.
The period rooms are an 18th century study, a 19th century office, and a 20th century drawing room. There is also a Georgia Pioneer Gallery and an Atlanta Pioneer Gallery which houses photographs and artifacts from 20 of Atlanta's most influential pioneering families, including the Rich, Candler, Herndon and Woodruff names. The Interactive Philanthropy Gallery uses Wii technology and a state of the art immersive theater setting to show how downtown and midtown Atlanta have grown and the part philanthropy has played in the city's development.
The Millenium Gate is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Saturdays and Sundays are by appointment only. Admission is $10 for adult, $8 for seniors and students, and children under 6 are free.
