ATLANTA -- Three Metro Atlanta universities made the grade in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2012 rankings.

Emory University cracked the top 20 best U.S. universities, coming in at #20.

Georgia Tech was rated #7 for undergraduate rankings among public universities and #36 overall.

"Georgia Tech is proud of its decade-long ranking as a top 10 public university," Georgia Tech President G. P. "Bud" Peterson said in a statement.

The University of Georgia also made the list, ranking #23 among public universties and tying with five other schools for #62 nationally.

"It is an honor to be ranked consistently among such very strong public universities," UGA President Michael F. Adams said in a statement.

The 2012 college rankings are available online at www.usnews.com. They will also be published in the new edition of America's Best Colleges guidebook next Tuesday.
