October, when our thoughts turn to the darker and more mysterious things in life, is a perfect time to visit Oakland Cemetery. If you want something fun but less cheesy than a haunted house, then Oakland is the place for you during the Halloween season. Since tickets are selling fast and often sell out early, it is a good idea to visit the website and get your tickets now.

Events kick off with Sunday in the Park on October 7 from noon to six p.m. There will be food from Six Feet Under, The Varsity, and other Atlanta restaurants, There will be live music, living history demonstrations, Irish dancers, and more. A street fair and artists' market will entice early Christmas shopping. It will also be the first opportunity during the month for visitors to enter some of the mauseleums, Children will enjoy the Teddy Bears' Tea in the cihldren's area. All of this for only a $5 donation! Admission for children three and under is free.

Then October 20, runners of all ages can Run Like Hell, in the 5k or like Heck in the fun run if they prefer, through the beautiful cemetery grounds and Grant Park next door. There will be special "cemetery-themed" awards and costumes are encouraged!

Then, October 25-28, Halloween season hits its highest point.with Capturing The Spirit of Oakland.

Halloween is the only time during the year that Oakland is open to visitors after dark. For these four days, there will be special tours in the evening , with costumed tour guides telling the stories of some of Oakland's most famous "residents." This tour also includes the chance to see inside many of the mauseleums by candlelight. Tickets are $20. Tours last about an hour. Bring a flashlight and wear comfortable shoes. These tours begin at 5:30 p.m.
