Restaurants: There are wonderful restaurants within walking distance, featuring everything from steaks and fish to grits and turnip greens. There are fast food burgers, too, is that's your pleasure. And don't miss Harry's Farmer's Market: an extaordinary place for food lovers.

Recreation: Golf at the Marietta City Club, a public golf course within walking distance. Hike the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield or play tennis at Laurel Park. And for some of us, visiting the Cobb County Courtrooms is recreation.

History Buffs: Some of the South's most beautiful historic homes are featured on Marietta's Self-Guided Walking Tour. Pick up a may at the Welcome Center or at the Inn. Kennesaw Mountain National Civil War Battlefield Park is just down the road. During the summer, enjoy colorful battle reenactments. Drive a bit north to see an exhibit of Georgia's most famous train: The General. Visit Marietta's Fire Station for a display of grand, old engines. See Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society's historic Root House, one of Marietta's first homes. Trace your southern roots at the Georgia Room of the Cobb Library. Conclude your day with a relaxing carriage ride around the historic Square -- available most weekends.

Shopping: Antique shopping reigns supreme in Marietta. Just walk up to the Square and shop to your heart's content. Then rest up at the local ice cream shop. Drive to several huge shopping malls minutes north or south on Interstate 75, or east on Interstate 285 -- Town Center, Lenox, Phipps Plaza, Perimeter, and Cumberland.
